Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College baseball team opened the northern portion of its schedule on Saturday with the 2011 home opener. The Golden Tornadoes defeated Mt. Aloysius 7-6 in game one before dropping a 19-6 decision in the night cap. Geneva moved its overall record to 10-3 with the split.

Matt Baer went the distance for Geneva in picking up the victory. He allowed three earned runs and nine hits on the mound. The offense got going early with three runs in the first inning highlighted by RBI singles from Justin McGurgan and Noah Medich. Jon Bushmire knocked in another run in the third and Mike Suluva′s RBI double highlighted a two run fifth inning. Geneva banged out nine hits in game one led by McGurgan′s 3-3 performance.

In game two, Mt. Aloysius came out swinging with 15 runs in the first three innings. Geneva scored three in the first inning including a two run single from Joel Gatti. Jon Jurinko had two hits in the night cap including an RBI single in a two-run second inning. The Golden Tornadoes had a total of 14 hits in game two with five players posting a multiple hit game.

Geneva opens play within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference next Friday with a single game at St. Vincent before the Bearcats visit Beaver Falls on Saturday for a doubleheader.
