Third Day in concert

Thursday evening, a capacity crowd of approximately 2,500 people filled Metheny Fieldhouse to hear Dove and Grammy Award-winning Christian band Third Day and their special guests Tenth Avenue North and Trevor Morgan. The artists presented the audience with over three hours of music, including top 10 singles, classic songs and brand new material.

“The show was fantastic,” exclaimed Geneva College Student Union President Gwen Ward. “I am surprised there is still a roof on the fieldhouse.”

As the evening began, Ward joined Geneva College President Dr. Ken Smith and junior Tyler Schoenberger, described as “Third Day′s number one fan on campus,” in welcoming the audience.

“If you′re here for a concert with great Christian music, you′re in the right place,” said Dr. Smith.

Opening act Trevor Morgan performed first, singing three songs from his new album The Blessed and the Broken, including a setting of Psalm 23. Trevor is a guitar player and singer/songwriter based in Nashville, TN.

Tenth Avenue North continued the show on an expanded stage, playing material from their new album The Light Meets the Dark. “Geneva College, I thoroughly enjoyed tonight′s concert,” Tenth Avenue guitarist Jeff Owen tweeted following the performance. “Please have us back. Every last one of you is amazing.”

Finally, Third Day took the stage, performing a set featuring music from their Dove-award winning album, Move, which won “Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year” this February. In addition to their standard stage act, they also performed while standing on the floor in the middle of the audience–and even took requests from the fans, playing songs they haven′t performed on stage in years.

"Third Day was awesome, especially when they played in the middle of the crowd,” said senior Valerie Hamilton. “It was packed and hot, but well worth it.”

Ward said, “Compared to other Third Day shows, this was by far the best. The intimate setting of the fieldhouse was great.”

Apparently not wanting the evening to end, the audience cheered Third Day on to multiple encores.

“Saying that the crowd enjoyed the show is an understatement,” said Director of Marketing Services Cheryl Johnston. “To say God was glorified in word and song is true.”

And Third Day members had a memorable experience, also. They describe the Geneva concert on their website: “Hello Beaver Falls, PA! Wow...what a show! Somehow we shoehorned about 3,000 of you into the gym...not sure how. We felt bad for you guys up in the corner on the side of the stage...but you guys certainly delivered a memorable night for us with your great energy…We will remember this show for sometime as it was one of [our] favorites on the Make Your Move tour.”
