Beaver Falls, PA - The pitching and offense came together for the Geneva College softball team on Thursday as it picked up a pair of victories over Washington & Jefferson by the scores of 8-0 and 10-1. Both games were stopped because of the mercy rule with game one going six innings and the night cap ending after five. The sweep pushed Geneva′s overall record to 18-8 including a 7-1 mark against PAC opponents.
Julie DiLonardo tossed a four hit shut-out in game one for her 13th victory of the season. She struck out three and did not walk a batter. The offense got going in the third inning with four runs. Ashley Davis provided a two-run single and Leanne Abate followed with an RBI double. Julie DiLonardo capped the rally with an RBI base hit. Two more runs came across the plate in the fourth when Davis struck again for a two-run double. Davis capped off a perfect 3-3 day at the plate in game one with another base hit in the sixth inning. Christina Fuqua′s squeeze bunt scored Adriane Blake with the decisive eighth run of the game. The Golden Tornadoes banged out 12 hits in the victory including two each from Leah Prisuta, Martha Adams and Adriane Blake.
DiLonardo picked up win number 14 in the night cap with three innings of work and just one earned run allowed. Adriane Blake′s sacrifice fly in the first inning got Geneva on the board before the President′s tied the game in the bottom of the first frame. The Golden Tornadoes broke open the game with five runs in the second inning. RBI singles from Samantha Bautista, Adriane Blake and Ashley Davis highlighted the rally. Blake and Liz Wechter each had RBI singles in Geneva′s fourth inning to put the game away. Ariel Lilly pitched the final two scoreless innings for the Golden Tornadoes.
Geneva will travel to Grove City next Tuesday before returning home on Thursday to face Saint Vincent.
