Grove City, PA - One disturbing trend continues to plague the Geneva College softball team in 2011. On Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes suffered a similar fate when it took game one 6-0 over Grove City and then dropped the night cap 6-2. It marked the sixth time this season that Geneva had won the first game of a doubleheader only to drop game two. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 19-9.

Julie DiLonardo was dominant in game one with six innings of shut-out ball. She six hits and struck out seven in picking up her 15th victory of the season. Ashley Davis′ sacrifice fly in the third inning opened the scoring for Geneva. Leanne Abate knocked in a second run in the fifth inning on a ground out before the Golden Tornadoes opened up the game with a four run sixth inning. Samantha Bautista delivered an RBI double and Martha Adams′ squeeze bunt plated another run for Geneva. Geneva had nine hits in the game as Adriane Blake was a perfect 4-4.

DiLonardo started game two and pitched four innings before being lifted. She allowed two earned runs on six hits. Ariel Lilly pitched the final four innings in the circle for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva could not solve Grove City′s pitching until a two-run seventh proved to be too little, too late. Samantha Bautista delivered an RBI triple before scoring herself on a Grove City throwing error. Geneva had eight hits in the night cap including two each from Martha Adams and Bautista.

Geneva′s busy week continues with a home doubleheader on Thursday against Saint Vincent. The Golden Tornadoes head south over the weekend with a doubleheader at Thomas More on Friday and Mt. St. Joseph′s on Saturday.
