Beaver Falls, PA - Perhaps the biggest upset of the day was that Geneva and Bethany even had the opportunity to play a doubleheader rain free on Saturday afternoon. After a miserable stretch of weather, the two teams finally got back onto the field for a twin bill at Geneva′s 33rd Street Field. It was only the second doubleheader of the week for Geneva and only the second doubleheader in 13 days for the Bison. For the Golden Tornadoes, it was worth the wait as they picked up a pair of victories by the scores of 11-4 and 2-1. The sweep pushed Geneva′s overall record to 17-14.

The Geneva offense got rolling early in game one with a six run first inning. In fact, the first six batters of the game for the Golden Tornadoes crossed home plate. Mike Suluva, the second batter of the game, launched a two run homer and RBI singles from Mike Jeffreys and Noah Medich highlighted the rally. Jeremy Herzog′s RBI single in the third inning extended the lead before a Suluva′s RBI bunt added to the lead later in the inning. Geneva banged out 12 hits in game one with multiple hits coming from Suluva, Justin McGurgan, Herzog and Joel Gatti. Matt Baer went the distance for his fourth victory of the season. Baer managed to scatter 11 hits and strike out seven in the victory.

Doug Sanson was the center of attention in the night cap with a complete game victory for the Golden Tornadoes. He allowed just one earned run with just a pair of strikeouts. He gave up just four hits in picking up his third victory of the season. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Adam Scheiderer and Mike Jeffreys came up with back to back doubles to tie the game. One inning later, Jon Bushmire delivered the eventual game winning base hit to score Joel Gatti.

Geneva begins a busy week with a three-game series against Thomas More on Monday and Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes host the Saints in a single game at 4 pm on Monday and a 1 pm doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
