Beaver Falls, PA - It was the final home doubleheader of the season for the Geneva College softball team and its five seniors. The Golden Tornadoes and their senior class ended the home schedule in style with a pair of victories over Thiel by the scores of 8-0 and 10-0. Game one ended after five innings and the night cap lasted just six frames because of the mercy rule. The sweep pushed Geneva′s overall record to 24-10. The senior class finished its home career with an overall record of 51-13 on the home turf.

In game one on Thursday Geneva took advantage of ten Thiel walks and managed to score eight runs on just three hits in the game. The big blow came during Geneva′s six run fifth inning when Christina Fuqua knocked a two-run double off the left field fence. Martha Adams′ base hit with one out in the fifth inning ended the game because of the eight-run rule. Ariel Lilly, one of Geneva′s five graduating seniors, pitched a one-hit shut-out in five innings of work. Lilly won for the sixth time this season as she retired the last 13 batters she faced.

In game two, Geneva brought out the sticks and pounded out 11 hits including a 4-4 effort from senior catcher Leanne Abate. Fellow senior Adriane Blake added a pair of hits in the victory. Senior Samantha Bautista had a hit and Anjelica Marsh scored a pair of runs on the day. Junior Julie DiLonardo tossed her third shut-out of the season and picked up victory number 18 on the year. DiLonardo struck out six and allowed just three hits in six innings of work.

The Golden Tornadoes will close out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Waynesburg for a 12:00 doubleheader. Geneva will then prepare for the NCCAA national tournament in Troutville, VA beginning on May 12th.
