Beaver Falls, PA - Senior day is always an emotional time on the baseball diamond. For the Geneva College baseball team, it was the final home games for a quintet of players wearing the black and gold. The Golden Tornadoes managed to hold off Grove City in the night cap to salvage a split against the Wolverines. Grove City took game one by the score of 7-5 with Geneva holding on for a 5-4 win in game two. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 20-15 with just a single game against Grove City remaining on the regular season schedule.

Geneva spotted Grove City a 5-0 lead in game one before rallying for a five spot in the bottom of the sixth inning. An RBI single from Mike Jeffrey′s got Geneva on the board. Jeremy Herzog produced a sacrifice fly and Jon Bushmire delivered a two-run base hit to tie the score. Unfortunately, the momentum was short-lived as Grove City scored a pair in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory. Matt Baer went the distance and was saddled with the loss. He allowed only three earned runs on eight hits. Geneva got a 3-3 performance from Jeffreys in the loss.

After a run from Grove City in the top of the second, Geneva responded with a run of its own on a Bryan Visingardi RBI base hit. Grove City put up three runs in the top of the fourth but again Geneva came back with four runs of its own in the fifth inning. Joel Gatti and Adam Teets each delivered two-run singles to give the Golden Tornadoes a lead in would never relinquish. Mike Jeffreys went six innings and allowed four earned runs while striking out three to pick up the victory. Mike Trn pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save but not before some drama. With first and third and two outs, Mike Suluva laid out on a line drive between second and third and made a game saving catch to close out the game.

Geneva will travel to Grove City at some point next week to make up Friday′s rain out. The date and time has yet to be determined. The Golden Tornadoes will then prepare for the NCCAA East Regional tournament later in May.
