Geneva′s student-run newspaper The Cabinet has selected its new editorial staff for the 2011-12 academic year. The position of editor-in chief will be Jon Cosgrove in the fall semester, with Daniel Favand replacing him for the spring semester upon his return from studying at Oxford, England. Other positions are as follows: Assistant Editor Sarah Felton, Features Editor Allie Reefer, Sports Editor Josh Carback and Photo Editor Joel Shannon. Dr. Tom Copeland will be returning as the faculty advisor to The Cabinet.
The interview committee for the positions included representatives from several groups on campus. Interviewers were Lisa Cooper from The Chimes, Alyssa Spang and Brandon Kaufman from The Cabinet, Monica Miller from the Geneva College Student Union, Sarah Smith from the Geneva yearbook staff, Jason Panella from the Public Relations Department and Dr. Tom Copeland as advisor to the newspaper. The interview committee asked applicants questions regarding the purpose of The Cabinet and the assets they would bring to the student publication.
The newspaper′s mission statement reads: "The purpose of The Cabinet, the official student newspaper of Geneva College, shall be to keep the members of the College community informed about events that concern the college and its students, whether they be of international or campus-wide significance; to provide for an open forum for airing the views of all interested groups on campus in order to promote understanding among all the groups; to help create a climate of intelligent and mature consideration of issues and events; to expose injustice on any front; and to develop in the readers an appreciation of Christian values of living by approaching all duties in the spirit of love, justice, and responsibility that Christ showed in all His dealings on earth."
