Canton, OH – The Geneva College baseball team saw its 2011 season come to abrupt end with a doubleheader loss to Malone College at the NCCAA East Regional tournament. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a pair of games to Malone by scores of 5-2 and 4-1 to end the 2011 campaign with a mark of 20-17. Meanwhile, Malone pushed its overall record to 35-22 and will advance to the NCCAA national tournament in two weeks.

The Golden Tornadoes spotted Malone a run in the second inning of game one before posting a tally of its own in the bottom of the inning. Malone scored again in the fourth and put the game away with a three-spot in the fifth inning. Matt Baer went 4.1 innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits. Doug Sanson tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in allowing just one hit. Justin McGurgan was 1-4 and came up with Geneva′s lone RBI in game one.

Geneva still could not solve Pioneer pitching in game two with just three hits in the 4-1 loss. Malone did all of its damage with a four-run fifth inning to break open a scoreless tie. Jeremy Herzog had two of Geneva′s three hits in the night cap. Mike Trn was saddled with the loss after five innings of three hit ball in which he allowed four earned runs. Sanson again cleaned things up with a scoreless inning of relief in game two.

Geneva finished the 2011 season with a mark of 20-17.
