Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva College head women′s basketball coach, Renee Drake, will be resigning her position prior to the fall semester. Drake, who was one of Geneva′s all-time great players on the court, sighted her family obligations as the reason for the departure.

Drake spent two years as Geneva′s head coach with her first season on the bench being on an interim basis. Following the 2009-10 campaign, she was hired as the full-time coach. In two seasons, Drake saw the Golden Tornadoes post a combined 17-33 record.

Drake′s tenure began after a one-year interim stint from Amy Russin, who was filling in during a medical leave of absence from legendary coach Ron Galbreath. Galbreath spent six years on the Geneva′s women′s bench with Drake spending three of those years as his assistant coach.

Following her time as an assistant coach at Geneva, Drake moved on to Western Beaver as a coach and teacher. She was the girl′s varsity basketball coach for two years and the softball coach for a year.

As a basketball player at Geneva, Drake is among the top ten all-time in scoring with 1153 points and sixth on the all-time rebounding list with 766 for her career.

“Renee has been a blessing for our women′s basketball program and for our athletic department, says athletic director Dr. Kim Gall. “We have the utmost respect for her decision to focus on her young family although we are certainly sad to see her leave her position. She has a great love for working with student-athletes and a great love for Geneva College and will be hard to replace.”
