Alliance, OH - The 2010 Geneva College women′s volleyball season will indeed be a tough act to follow after setting a single season school record with a mark of 26-5. One year later, the Golden Tornadoes picked up right where they left off with a pair of wins to open the new campaign at the University of Mount Union tournament. Geneva defeated Allegheny in the season opener 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-14) before taking care of St. Mary′s College in four games (26-28, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16).

In the opener, Kristland McCracken led the offense with 14 kills while senior Rachel Kuegler chipped in with nine kills in the victory. Ashley Davis contributed four service aces while 2010 PAC assist leader Deanna Briody started in style with a team best 33 assists.

Briody picked up 45 assists in the night cap but it was the play of Bowersox that proved to be the difference. Bowersox led the way with 16 kills in the win over Saint Mary′s while also picking up a team best eight blocks and three service aces. Davis had a career best ten kills and 19 digs to help secure the doubleheader sweep.

The Golden Tornadoes complete their weekend of action at Mt. Union with matches against Hope and Case Western on Saturday. PAC play begins next Wednesday with a trip to Washington & Jefferson.
