Beaver Falls, PA - Expectations for the 2011 Geneva College men′s soccer team are very high after a 14-3-2 record a year ago. On Tuesday night, the Golden Tornadoes opened their home schedule by dropping a 2-0 decision to Fredonia State. The loss dropped Geneva back to 1-1-1 to start the season while Fredonia improved to 2-1.

Throughout a sluggish first half, the Golden Tornadoes did not manage a shot on goal and were outshot 7-2 overall in the first 45 minutes. Fredonia State got on the board in the 39th minute on a goal from Luke Spencer. Just four minutes into the second half, Fredonia State doubled its lead on a tally from Tyler Williams. Fredonia State goalkeeper Bobby McGinnis made those two goals stand up with a shut-out that included just one save as that is all Geneva managed to get on net.

For the match, Fredonia State outshot the Golden Tornadoes 12-7. Junior goalkeeper Evan Biedenbach managed to turn aside six shots in an attempt to keep Geneva alive, but the Golden Tornadoes could never put together any type of extended pressure to challenge the visiting Blue Devils.

Geneva will try to get back into the win column on Saturday after a few days of much deserved rest. The Golden Tornadoes will welcome Penn State Altoona to the Merriman Athletic Complex for a 7 pm kickoff.
