Beaver Falls, PA - It was an uncharacteristic loss for the Geneva College men′s soccer team last Tuesday night in the home opener against Fredonia State. The Golden Tornadoes had only lost once at home all year in 2010 and on Saturday night they got back to some normalcy with a 2-0 victory over Penn State Altoona to move their overall record to 2-1-1.
Geneva dominated field position for the majority of the night and outshot the Lions 16-4 for the match. Jeb Nash took a pass from Jake McCracken and deposited it into the back of the net to open the scoring in the 25th minute of the match. It was Nash′s first goal of the season and it got the Golden Tornadoes on the board for the first time in nearly a game and a half. Nash and McCracken hooked up again in the 55th minute but this time it was a Nash throw in that tipped off of Josh Mann′s head onto McCracken′s foot who then coolly put it into the net for his third goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Bryan Butler was not tested often on Saturday night but he did make two saves to earn his second consecutive victory and shut-out to start his collegiate career.
The Golden Tornadoes will travel to LaRoche College on Monday for a 4 pm kickoff before returning home on Wednesday night at 7 pm to host Malone University.
