Beaver Falls, PA - Two goal deficits are never an easy thing to rally back from in college soccer. On Monday night, the Geneva College women′s team did just that to salvage a 2-2 tie against LaRoche College at Merriman Athletic Complex. The tie pushed Geneva′s overall record to 2-2-1.

The Golden Tornadoes spotted LaRoche a pair of first half goals that came just six minutes apart late in the first stanza. The Red Hawks appeared to have things well in control until Maura Allen took a lead pass from Risa Tillman and deposited her team leading sixth goal of the season into the back of the net to cut the deficit to just one goal.

Still trailing with less than four minutes to play, freshman Linae Hayward made a sparkling pass up the sideline to Becca Shaw who calmly lifted the ball over the outstretched hand of the LaRoche goalkeeper for the tying goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation.

Neither team managed to score in the last three minutes of regulation or in the 20 minute overtime period but it was not without drama. In the closing minutes, LaRoche got a head ball past diving Geneva goalkeeper Sara Mittner, but Rhetta King played the defensive hero by heading the ball back off of the goal line to keep the game tied.

Both teams finished with 11 shots each but LaRoche put six of those shots on goal with Mittner turning away four of them to held gain the tie.

The Golden Tornadoes will head to the road after four straight at home this Wednesday to battle Pitt-Greensburg. Geneva returns to Beaver Falls on Saturday evening to face Franciscan University at 5 pm.
