Beaver Falls, PA - For 23 years, Geneva College and the Golden Tornadoes athletic department has enjoyed a pillar of success in the athletic training room. Jeff Kern has served as a staple of the Golden Tornadoes and its athletic programs for over two decades. Thursday is the last day for Kern on Geneva′s campus as he has accepted the position of head athletic trainer for Beaver Falls High School.

It is a bittersweet day for members of the Geneva College athletic staff as they see a long time employee and friend moving on but the good news as that he won′t be moving too far. "Jeff has been an invaluable piece of our athletic department puzzle for a long time," says athletic director Dr. Kim Gall. "The countless hours spent in the training room, on the road, in doctor′s offices and at hospitals are too measurable to count. He has done an incredible job helping our student-athletes recover from injuries and help get them back on the field as soon as possible."

Kern also spent 13 years as a member of the Geneva College baseball staff as an assistant coach. "Jeff is a guy that our kids just absolutely love," says long-time head baseball coach Alan Sumner. "He has an amazing understanding of the game of baseball and has the gift of being able to teach those skills to young players of all ages. Our guys and our program are certainly going to miss him being around, both on and off the field."

Kern spent the majority of his final day on campus with his athletic department colleagues sharing stories from the past 23 years, both as a trainer and a coach. He has seen thousands of Geneva College student-athletes venture in and out of the training room and has handled each young man or young lady with the greatest of courtesy and respect.

It is clearly the end of an era for Geneva College athletics but at the same time it begins a new chapter in the life of Jeff Kern. On behalf of the thousands of athletes and the many coaches that have worked and played alongside Kernal throughout the past 23 years, we say a hearty thank you for all that you have done and all that you have meant to Geneva College athletics.
