Beaver Falls, PA - Expectations for the Geneva College women′s volleyball team were sky high heading into the 2011 season based mostly upon the fact that the Golden Tornadoes posted a 26-5 overall record a year ago. One of the main reasons for the success has been the arrival of setter Deanna Briody onto Geneva′s campus. Briody led the PAC in assists last year and this past week she was back to her old tricks in helping lead Geneva to a perfect 3-0 record with three PAC victories. For her efforts, Briody was named the NCCAA national volleyball player of the week.

Geneva defeated Washington & Jefferson, Grove City and Waynesburg in its first week of conference competition and came away with three victories. Since then, Geneva has pulled off two more conference wins and sits atop the PAC with a 5-0 record. Last week, Briody averaged 12.4 assists per game while also picking up three service aces and 1.8 digs per game. She set a career high with 62 assists in Geneva′s 3-1 victory over Grove City last Saturday.

Briody is once again among the leaders in the PAC in assists with nearly 11 per game. Her and her teammates will have a challenging weekend as they head to the Hiram College tournament to play four matches against the likes of Mt. Union, Otterbein and Case. Geneva sits at 7-2 for the season with one of those losses coming from Case earlier in the season.
