Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s tennis team was looking for its first victory of the 2011 season and its first every win within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference on Saturday against Thomas More. The outcome did not come into focus until the conclusion of the final singles match of the day. Sophomore Brittany Kress rallied from one set down to pull out a three-set victory and push the Golden Tornadoes to a 5-4 win over the Saints. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record to 1-3 including a 1-2 mark within the PAC.

Geneva opened the match by picking up victories in two of the three doubles matches. Amy Weller and Julie Kline teamed up to win number two doubles 8-4 while Courtney Light and Kress won number three doubles 8-3.

Thomas More managed straight set singles victories in the one and two spots setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Cassandra Califf won her singles match 7-5, 6-4, but Geneva still needed a pair of wins in the final three singles matches of the day. Julie Kline withstood a three-set match with a victory at number four singles by the scores of 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

With the match tied at 4-4, Kress seemed in a lot of trouble in the final match of the day. She dropped the first set 6-0 but made an incredible comeback with wins in the final two sets 7-5, 7-5 to pull out the individual victory and give the Golden Tornadoes their first ever PAC victory.

Geneva will be back in action on Monday at long time defending PAC champion Grove City in a make-up match beginning at 4 pm.
