Geneva Closes Out Hiram Tournament Winless

Hiram, OH - What a difference a few days can make? The Geneva College volleyball team came into the weekend at the Hiram College Invitational having won five straight matches and sitting with a 7-2 overall record. After four matches at Hiram, the Golden Tornadoes came away winless and fell to 7-6 on the season. After dropping a pair of matches on Friday night, the Golden Tornadoes dropped decisions to Hiram 3-0 and Case Western 3-1 on Saturday. The six losses is already one more than Geneva suffered throughout the entire 2010 season when it finished the season at 26-5.

Geneva opened the day on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Hiram by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 26-24. Kristland McCracken led the offense with nine kills while teammates Ashley Davis and Maggie Bowersox combined for 15 kills in the match. Deanna Briody combined for 80 assists in the two matches on Saturday including a 31 assist effort against Hiram.

Rachel Kuegler picked up 18 digs in the night cap to lead Geneva's defense. Bowersox led the offense with 14 kills with Davis checking in with 13 and McCracken added ten. Geneva dropped a 3-1 decision to Case Western by scores of 25-23, 11-25, 26-28, 14-25.Briody capped off her day with 49 assists in the four-game loss to Case Western. Case has now handed Geneva a pair of losses in the first three weeks of the season.

The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy some time off before heading to Marietta College next week for a tournament that will feature three matches. Geneva gets back into PAC action on the 27th at Thiel College.
