Beaver Falls, PA - It took a little longer than first expected, but the Geneva College men′s soccer finally outlasted Marietta by the score of 2-0. The start of the game was delayed over an hour because of a lightning storm that also forced the game to be played on Reeves Field because of the field conditions. The wait turned out to be worthwhile for Geneva as it moved to 6-1-1 for the season including five consecutive victories.

Geneva′s Garrett Masters opened the scoring with his second goal of the season just eight minutes into the contest. Jesse Herman′s throw in flicked off of Josh Mann′s head right to the foot of Masters who buried it into the net. Neither team was able to find the net for the rest of the first half as the Golden Tornadoes took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Jake McCracken extended the lead when he found a loose ball in the box and fired the ball into the net for his team leading ninth goal of the season. McCracken, who was named the President′s Athletic Conference player of the week on Tuesday, found out today that he was awarded the NCCAA national player of the week as well.

Freshman goalkeeper Bryan Butler made four saves and remained perfect at 4-0 for the year. Three of his four victories have been shut-outs to start his collegiate career. Geneva controlled the pace of the game and outshot the Pioneers 16-5 for the match.

Geneva will find out real quickly exactly where they are at on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes will welcome in a true test when two-time defending NCAA division III national champion Messiah comes to town for a 4 pm kickoff. Geneva will begin conference play a week from Saturday with a home date scheduled against W & J.
