Pittsburgh, PA - The Geneva College women′s tennis won its second match of the year on Saturday afternoon and for the second time it was far from easy. The Golden Tornadoes defeated Chatham University 5-4 as once again it came down to final singles match of the day to determine the outcome. Geneva improved to 2-4 overall and 2-3 within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.
Geneva opened the day by dropping two of the three doubles matches to fall behind 2-1 heading into singles play. The lone doubles victory was picked up by the tandem of Courtney Light and Brittany Kress by the count of 8-3.
Geneva was forced to win four of six in doubles and three of those four came in fairly easy fashion with straight set victories from Julie Kline (7-5, 6-2), Alison Beattie (6-3, 6-3) and Alyssa Kuhn (6-4, 6-2). The match came down to number one singles where Geneva′s senior Kara Zimmerman had dropped the first set 6-2. Much like Geneva′s first victory of the season, Zimmerman rallied to win the final two sets 6-2 and 6-3 to take the match and give Geneva its second team win of the year.
The Golden Tornadoes have two more PAC matches next week including a date at Thiel next Wednesday and a home match with Bethany next Friday at 4 pm.
