Beaver Falls, PA - When it comes to Geneva College setter Deanna Briody the words sophomore jinx need not apply. The Golden Tornadoes′ volleyball team is off to a 10-6 start including a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play and one of the main reasons, much like last year, has been the play of Briody. Geneva was 3-0 last week and took home the Marietta College Tournament first place prize thanks to the play of Briody. For her efforts, she was named the Presidents′ Athletic player of the week.

Averaging 11.5 assists per set in the three victories, she put together 46 assist matches against both Washington & Lee and Marietta. On Friday night, Briody′s 46 assist match helped Geneva defeat previously undefeated Washington & Lee 3-1. In addition to her assists, she also contributed 18 digs in the victory.

On Saturday, she repeated her 46 assist effort in the win over Marietta and threw in five service aces for good measure. The Golden Tornadoes sit atop the PAC with a 5-0 conference record and will get challenges from Thiel, Saint Vincent, Bethany and Thomas More this week in what will go a long way in determining the early season favorite in the PAC.
