Greensburg, PA - It was a muddy track for the men′s and women′s cross country teams from Geneva on Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes competed at the Pitt-Greensburg Invitational. As it turned out, the Golden Tornadoes must not mind the mud as the women′s team brought home first place honors and the men finished second overall.

Shannon Rech led the women′s team with a fourth place finish in a time of 25:45 on the 6K course. Teammate Anna Kluitenberg came in one spot later and only eight seconds after Rech. Freshman Heidi Steiner also cracked the top ten with a seventh place finish and Emily Hoobler finished tenth overall. Geneva′s 63 total points was good enough for first place and a solid 17 points ahead of second place Thiel College. Geneva outlasted a total of 11 other schools on the women′s side.

On the men′s side, only Thiel College bested the Golden Tornadoes in the overall standings. Thiel finished with an impressive 29 points while Geneva posted 61 total points. Nick Edinger was Geneva′s top finisher with a mark of 27:45 and a third place overall finish. Nate Mansor finished tenth with teammates Charles Parker (12), Jacob Beschner (13) and Aaron Ferguson (23) all breaking the top 25.

Geneva′s cross country team will head to Pittsburgh for the Carnegie Mellon Invitational next Saturday morning.
