Waynesburg, PA - One year after playing the highest scoring football game in Geneva College history, the Golden Tornadoes hooked up with Waynesburg again in what was certainly no defensive struggle. The two teams combined for 80 points in this chapter of the long standing rivalry with Waynesburg coming out on top again by the score of 47-33. The loss dropped Geneva to 1-5 on the season including a 1-3 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, Waynesburg won for the fourth consecutive time and remained unbeaten in the PAC.

The theme for Geneva in 2011 has been early game deficits and this match-up proved to be more of the same. The Golden Tornadoes spotted Waynesburg a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Zack Hayward hooked up with Rocco Collevecchia on a 53 yard pass play to cut the deficit in half at the 11:01 mark of the second quarter. Waynesburg answered back to regain the two score lead but Geneva′s Hayward rambled into the end zone from eight yards out to cut the lead to 21-14 late in the first half.

For the second time in three games, Geneva′s defense watched as an opponent found the end zone in the waning seconds of the first half. A Jeff Young six yard reception from Josh Graham extended the lead to 28-14 with only 16 seconds remaining before halftime.

Waynesburg managed two more touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game on ice before Geneva got a Collevecchia 16 yard run and a Corey O′Patchen nine yard reception from Collavecchia to make the game closer. Collavecchia completed his stellar day with a two-yard TD run with only 22 seconds remaining in regulation.

The junior running back/quarterback finished his day with a pair of a pair of touchdown runs and a pair of touchdown passes to go along with 53 yards rushing and 160 yards through the air. He completed the trifecta with three receptions for 41 yards. Zack Hayward threw for 140 yards on 15-28 passing and a touchdown.

Geneva′s defense yielded 430 total yards with 311 of those yards coming from Waynesburg QB Josh Graham on 19-29 passing. Christian Jackson was a thorn in Geneva′s side all day with eight receptions for 157 yards receiving to go along with his 157 yards on kickoff returns.

Geneva′s defense got seven tackles from Dillon Goodell while teammates Rashad Briscoe and Solomon Hejirika each chipped in with six tackles in the game.

The Golden Tornadoes return home next Saturday to take on Grove City in a 7 pm kickoff at Reeves Field.
