Beaver Falls, PA - One goal losses are becoming an unwelcomed regular occurrence for the Geneva College women′s soccer team. On Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes suffered their third straight one-goal loss and fourth straight defeat in the PAC with a 1-0 decision against Bethany. The loss dropped Geneva to 4-9-1 overall including an 0-4 mark in conference play.

Geneva and Bethany shared equal field position for most of the first half and it appeared as though both teams would head to the halftime break in a scoreless tie. The Bison had different ideas as Julie Lindenfelser cut to the middle of the field and fired a shot into the net with just 44 seconds remaining in the first half. Lindenfelser′s goal was her sixth of the season and proved to be all Bethany would need for the victory.

Neither team could find the net in the second half although Geneva came close on a couple different occasions. Perhaps the best opportunity came on a direct kick with less than eight minutes left in regulation. Risa Tillman′s shot from 25 yards out hit the crossbar and fell over the top of the goal. For the game, Geneva managed only two shots on goal while the Bison put up nine shots. Karmyn Culbertson did her best to keep Geneva alive with eight saves in the match but the one that got past her ended up being the difference.

Still in search of its first conference victory, Geneva will head to Thomas More on Saturday before returning home next Wednesday to face Waynesburg University at 5 pm.
