Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s volleyball team enjoyed what seems like a rare home match on Thursday evening. The Golden Tornadoes took advantage of the home cooking with a 3-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson. The win was Geneva′s fourth straight and ninth in the last ten matches. The Golden Tornadoes moved to 16-7 overall including an 11-1 record in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

The Golden Tornadoes won by game scores of 25-19, 25-12, 14-25, 25-18 in defeating the President′s for the second time in 2011. After cruising through games one and two, Geneva saw many of its starters on the bench for a game three that went the way of Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Tornadoes responded with a solid fourth game to put the contest away.

Playing in only three of the four games, Maggie Bowersox led the offense with 13 kills as the only Geneva player with double digit kills. She finished the match with ten kills on her last 13 swings. She also aided the defensive effort with three blocks in the match. Briody led the way with 31 assists and Paige Banyas came off the bench to lead the way with 15 digs. Kristland McCracken accounted for 11 points with eight kills and a team best three service aces.

Geneva now begins a difficult two week stretch that will determine its regular season fate. The Golden Tornadoes head to Saint Vincent on Saturday to battle the Bearcats before a stretch of four matches in four days beginning next Wednesday at Waynesburg. Geneva returns home next Thursday for a first place showdown with Bethany before hosting Westminster and Thomas More a week from Saturday.
