Crestview Hills, PA - The Geneva College men′s soccer team is certainly familiar with close games. The Golden Tornadoes have won three of their first four PAC matches in overtime. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes would have loved to take their match with Thomas More to overtime but the Saints managed to prevail with a 2-1 regulation victory in handing Geneva its first conference loss of the season. Geneva fell to 10-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the PAC while Thomas More improved to 10-1-1 and a perfect 5-0 in conference play.

The Golden Tornadoes had enjoyed much success in coming from behind to pick up victories in recent weeks. On Saturday, Geneva tried a different tactic and it ended up getting a taste of its own medicine. The Golden Tornadoes managed to get on the board first for only the second time in conference matches. Geneva′s Jeb Nash opened the scoring on an assist from Teddy Krzywiecki in the 11th minute of the match. The lead was short-lived as the Saints answered with a goal of their own just nine minutes later.

The deciding goal came in the 30th minute as Thomas More′s Andrew Sullivan managed to get one past freshman goalkeeper Bryan Butler for the eventual game winner.

Neither team could find the net in the final 60 minutes of action in a match that turned out to be very evenly matched on the field and on the statistic sheet. Thomas More enjoyed a 12-11 advantage in shots with the Saints firing nine of those shots on net forcing seven saves from Butler.

With only three PAC matches left on the regular season schedule, Geneva finds itself one full game behind conference leading Thomas More for the top spot in the PAC. The top four teams will advance to the PAC tournament in the first week of November. The Golden Tornadoes will try to keep pace on Wednesday night in the regular season home finale against Waynesburg at 7:30 pm. Geneva will celebrate senior night and honor its five graduating seniors in their final regular season home match.
