Waynesburg, PA - It was not easy for the Geneva College women′s volleyball team to not look past Wednesday night′s opponent in anticipation of what was to be the first place showdown on Thursday against Bethany. The Golden Tornadoes had to first deal with some unfinished business at Waynesburg before turning their full attention to the Bison. The Golden Tornadoes took care of that business to the tune of a 3-0 victory over Waynesburg on Wednesday by the scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-22. The three-game sweep was Geneva′s sixth consecutive victory and pushed its record to 18-7 overall and 13-1 in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes will now look forward to a Thursday night home match against 11-2 Bethany as they will try to seek revenge against the only team to post a victory against Geneva in conference play in 2011.

On Wednesday night, the Golden Tornadoes had little trouble getting past Waynesburg as they produced their first 3-0 shut-out victory in their last eight matches. It was another case of evenly distributing the ball from sophomore setter Deanna Briody. In addition to her 28 assists, Briody also came away with a team best five service aces. Leading the offense with 10 kills was Rachel Kuegler while teammates Erin Smith, Maggie Bowersox and Kristland McCracken each had eight kills. Smith and Bowersox had their eight kills on just 14 swings each.

McCracken also was solid defensively as she joined Brianna Mixter with a team leading 11 digs in the victory.

The Golden Tornadoes will indeed welcome Bethany to Metheny Fieldhouse on Thursday night at 7 pm with what could be the first place tournament seed at stake. On Saturday, Geneva will welcome Westminster at 11 am and then have Thomas More come to town later that evening at 6 pm. The Golden Tornadoes will close out the regular season next week at Chatham University.
