Erie, PA - The Geneva College women′s tennis team will always have the distinction of being the first Geneva team to officially compete in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference post-season. On Friday, the Golden Tornadoes sent seven women into the first round of the PAC tournament, including five in singles and a pair of doubles′ teams. At the end of the first round, only one Geneva player remained in the field as Julie Kline advanced past the first round in #4 singles.
The tournament opened with doubles competition as both Geneva teams were eliminated in the first round. In #2 doubles, Amy Weller and Julie Kline dropped an 8-1 decision while teammates Courtney Light and Brittany Kress fell 8-4 in #3 doubles.
Kline turned around and opened her play in #4 singles and received the first winning result for the Golden Tornadoes with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set victory to advance to the semi-finals. Kara Zimmerman dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision in #1 singles while teammates Cassandra Califf, Brittany Kress and Alyssa Kuhn also fell in the first round of the tournament.
Kline advances to the semi-final round later on Friday and will advance to Saturday in either the PAC title match in #4 singles or in the consolation round.
The Golden Tornadoes ended their regular season earlier in the week with an overall record of 5-7 and a mark of 5-4 in conference play.
