Mosab Yousef

The venue for Geneva′s Visiting Artist and Lecture Series (GVALS) guest speaker Mosab Yousef on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. has been moved. Due to water damage and the subsequent repairs in Geneva′s John White Chapel, Yousef will speak at the Chippewa Evangelical Free Church at 239 Braun Road in Beaver Falls, PA. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The author of Son of Hamas: A Gripping Account of Terror, Betrayal, Political Intrigue, and Unthinkable Choices, Mosab Hassan Yousef, whose father was a founder of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, will speak at as part of the college's Geneva Visiting Lecturer and Artist Series (GVALS).

Son of Hamas, written with assistance from journalist Ron Brackin, describes Yousef's childhood in Ramallah and chronicles his later experiences as a member of Hamas and an informer for Israeli internal security service Shin Bet. As the oldest son of a founding member and leader of Hamas, Yousef was an important part of the Hamas organization and was arrested by the Israelis numerous times throughout his life. While in an Israeli prison in 1996, however, he agreed to become an informer for Shin Bet. Yousef risked everything to become a valuable source of information in the Hamas leadership for Shin Bet, helping to expose terrorist cells and prevent suicide bombings and assassination attempts on Israeli figures.

A British missionary introduced Yousef to Christ in 1999. He eventually converted to Christianity and was secretly baptized in Tel Aviv in 2005. "I found that I was really drawn to the grace, love and humility that Jesus talked about," he explains in Son of Hamas.

In 2007, Yousef moved from the West Bank to San Diego, California. He publicly announced his conversion to Christianity in 2008, renouncing Hamas and the Arab leadership and accepting political asylum in America. Yousef has been disowned by his family and denounced by Hamas, and continues to be a voice for peace and Christ's love in the Middle East.

Yousef's speaking engagement is free and open to the public.
