Taboo Tuesday is a new monthly program designed to facilitate conversations on difficult subject matter within the Geneva community. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services (MSS) and led by a combination of students and community leaders, the intention is to give students the opportunity to engage in discussion with each other in a safe and open environment.

The first Taboo Tuesday event will be during Justice Week on October 18 at 7 p.m. in Skye Lounge. The topic will be "Abortion: Is it an issue of justice for the mother or unborn child?" Through a panel of community leaders from Beaver Falls, Wexford and Pittsburgh, the MSS office hopes to provide a variety of perspectives on this controversial topic.

Multicultural Educator Kristen Rendulic says, "Particularly, we will be critically thinking about abortion as an issue of justice as it pertains to both the mother and the unborn child. The hope is that students will take this time to reflect on the perspectives given and engage with the panelists in discussion as we remember to love God and love others above all else.""

"Taboo Tuesday will challenge the Geneva community to consider important issues from new perspectives and thoughtfully formulate a personal response," explains Director of Multicultural Student Services Kathy Kinzer. "The program seeks to create a non-judgmental environment where it is perfectly acceptable to ask awkward questions, confess uncertainties, and work through underlying tensions."
