Beaver Falls, PA - Matt Lorello worked tirelessly on his offensive game during the off-season. The junior forward scored just 65 points in limited action for the Golden Tornadoes a year ago. Oh what a difference a year can make. Just five games into the 2011-12 season, it is becoming quite apparent that not only has Lorello transformed his game into one of Geneva′s top players, he is looking like one of the best players in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Last week, Lorello averaged 29.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 71% (22-31) from the field. He posted a career high 37 points in a loss to Penn State Beaver in which he shot 15-19 from the field. For his efforts, Lorello was named the Presidents′ Athletic Conference player of the week.

Geneva has opened the season by winning just once in five games but Lorello has certainly been one of the few bright spots for a struggling Geneva team. With fellow post-man Lambros Svingos sidelined with an injury, Lorello has stepped up his offensive output and has become Geneva′s top option on the offensive side of the floor. With Svingos expected to return soon, the Golden Tornadoes will have quite the 1-2 combination in the post.

The Golden Tornadoes open up PAC play on Wednesday night when they host Thomas More College at Metheny Fieldhouse at 7:30 pm.
