Beaver Falls, PA - To say the Geneva College women′s basketball team had a tough task in its first official Presidents′ Athletic Conference game may be the understatement of the year. The Golden Tornadoes, who are competing as an official member of the PAC and NCAA Division III for the first year, welcomed five-time defending conference champion Thomas More to Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday night and dropped an 82-44 decision to the Saints. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 1-4 while Thomas More improved to 3-1.

The Saints finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 30-1 including an undefeated run through the PAC. Thomas More opened defense of that title on Wednesday night and had little trouble with a young and banged up Geneva team. The Golden Tornadoes opened the game with a Beth DeLuca three-point field goal and held a 5-4 lead before Thomas More took over and would never look back. The Saints shot 55% from the field including a ridiculous 68% from the field in the second half. Thomas More also dominated the glass to the tune of 40-19 including 22 offensive rebounds and 25 second chance points. After taking a 38-19 lead into the locker room, the Saints extended that lead and led by as many as 40 points with 1:45 remaining in the second half.

Junior guard Chelsea D′Urso was Geneva′s shining light on offense with 19 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. Rachel Rouan added ten points as the only two Geneva players to reach double figure. Every player on Thomas More′s roster scored including a team best 17 points from Moriah Corey, who also added nine rebounds.

Geneva will hit the road on Saturday for their first conference test away from Metheny Fieldhouse. The Golden Tornadoes are scheduled to tip at 2 pm in West Virginia against Bethany College. Geneva returns home next Wednesday to take on Waynesburg.
