Russ and Bethany Warren, the owners of Beaver Falls Coffee and Tea (BFCAT), will be speaking in chapel on Wednesday, November 9 as part of the Office of Career Development′s month-long Calling and Vocation events. The Warrens will share the story behind their coffee shop and encouraging students to embrace their calling.
"We are excited to speak in Geneva's chapel about calling and vocation," says Russ Warren. "During our time at Geneva, the ideas of living out a Christian worldview became very real to us. If we are here in an economical depressed area that needs a renewed communion between neighbors, what does the Christian need to do to facilitate both a revived economy and neighborliness? For us that meant a coffee shop, a place where people could gather, see new people, meet old friends, and build up the necessary neighborhood structures that lead to economic development."
Bethany got the idea for BFCAT during her time as a student at Geneva College. She noticed that weren′t any local coffee shops embracing Christianity, and she sought to change that. Russ and Bethany met in the Genevans Choir during that time and pursued the dream of BFCAT together.
BFCAT is unique from other local coffee shops in that it gets its coffee beans from free trade farmers. Free trade obtains beans directly from the grower, rather than a series of middlemen, and the grower is properly compensated for their crop.
Chapel is Geneva College′s weekly time to gather as in Christian fellowship and praise the Lord. Chapel is held each Wednesday in Metheny Fieldhouse at 10:15 a.m.
