Geneva College′s Faith and Culture Series is a weeklong program of events aimed at examining contemporary culture. Presented by the Center for Faith and Practice (CFP) and the Student Programs Office, the series offers the Geneva community opportunities to explore and respond to our culture from a Christian perspective.

"Although we aren't expecting you to reach equilibrium on how to wisely respond to all of culture′s artifacts in just one week, we do hope that the Faith and Culture Series creates a space for us, as a campus community, to start the conversation," explains Office of Student Programs Director Ryan Holt.

The Faith and Culture Series begins Monday, November 14 with a screening of the film The Help in John White Chapel of Old Main at 9:30 p.m.

Programming continues Tuesday, November 15, with "The Skinny on Pop Culture," a series of discussions held at 9:30 p.m. in various residence hall lounges. Topics include: "Sports: More than a Game" at Clarke Hall, "Race, Gender and Media" at Young East, "18-25 (What′s My Age Again?)" at Pearce Hall and "Tweets, Texts and Our Humanity" at McKee Hall.

Other events for the week include a screening of the Academy Award-winning movie Kavi, along with an interview of the film′s writer, director and producer Gregg Helvey on Wednesday, November 16.

"Play is Your Secret Weapon" is a musical jam session led by Portland, OR band Agents of Future on Thursday, November 17. Agents of Future will also be a part of UpperRoom that evening in Johnston Gym at 9:30 p.m.

American political commentator Fred Barnes will share his perspective on the interaction between faith and politics. He will speak in Skye Lounge on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. and on Friday, November 18 at 10:10 a.m.

The Faith and Culture Series concludes on Friday, November 18 with the Contemporary Music Center Live Fall ′11 Tour, including The Ocean Walker and other musical artists, in John White Chapel at 7:30 p.m.

Holt says, "We encourage you to take advantage of the week′s happenings and join in on the conversation."
