Geneva College′s Department of Music recently sponsored three music majors to perform at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Tri-State Chapter Auditions held at Youngstown State University. The three performers-junior voice performance/music business major Ian Taylor, senior voice performance/music education major Lauren Holmes and sophomore music business major Isaac Fritsch-are all students from the voice studio of Professor of Music Dr. David Kenneth Smith, who serves as the secretary/treasurer of the NATS chapter.

"The NATS Adjudications are a great opportunity for our students to perform and hear their peers in the region, and match their wits and talents against them," explained Dr. Smith. "Because of the prominence of the universities and magnet arts schools in the area, the competition can be particularly fierce."

Taylor was awarded first prize in the Junior Men classification, and Holmes placed third in the Senior Women classification. Having advanced to the final round, both Taylor and Holmes also performed in a winners′ recital for the assembled contestants and professors.

Piano performance majors senior Lindsay York and junior Laura Noell accompanied the singers.

"Lindsay and Laura were nearly the only student accompanists who played for the competition, among a staff of professional pianists. Both played with finesse and distinction," stated Dr. Smith.

He added, "Be sure to congratulate all of our performers; each brings honor to their alma mater by their talent and effort."
