Grove City, PA - The Geneva College women′s basketball team was in search of its first victory in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference on Saturday at Grove City. Early in the second half, the Golden Tornadoes had put themselves in a situation to do just that but a late shooting cold spell proved to be costly as the Geneva dropped a 48-36 decision to Grove City. The loss was Geneva′s seventh straight and dropped its overall record to 1-7, including a 0-4 mark in the conference. Grove City improved to 2-6 with its first victory in the PAC in 2011.

Geneva started slowly and watched Grove City grab an early 12-point lead at 20-8. The Golden Tornadoes slowly climbed back into the game at by halftime trailed by only four points at 27-23. Geneva opened the second half by scoring the first six points and took its first lead of the game just a few minutes into the second stanza. Neither team was lighting things up in a defensive struggle and when Beth DeLuca knocked down her second three-point field goal of the game at the 11:44 mark it gave Geneva a 32-31 lead. The good news was that Geneva had reclaimed the lead. The bad news was that the Golden Tornadoes would manage only one more field goal the rest of the game. DeLuca knocked down another trey at the 7:22 mark to cut Grove City′s lead to three points at 38-35 but Geneva would only muster one more free throw down the stretch.

The Golden Tornadoes shot just 25% from the field in knocking down 14 field goals for the game. DeLuca was 6-18 from the field including a trio of three point field goals. She led the Golden Tornadoes with 17 points as the only Geneva player to reach double figures. Fellow senior teammate Rachel Rouan scored just two points but led both teams with a career best 14 rebounds. The Wolverines got a game high 23 points from Leah Gibson, who was 9-14 from the field.

Geneva will try to regroup with a couple weeks off for the holiday season. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to New Orleans after Christmas for a pair of games at the Big Easy Classic on December 29-30. Geneva will visit Malone on January 2nd before heading back to Metheny Fieldhouse for a PAC match-up with Chatham on January 4th.
