Thousand Oaks, CA - On a night that senior guard David Phillips will never forget, the rest of the Geneva College men′s basketball team will like to put it out of their minds as quick as possible. David Phillips became the 36th player in Geneva men′s basketball history to reach the 1000 point plateau but the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 53-45 decision to California Lutheran in the second loss in as many nights for Geneva on the West Coast. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 3-8 as it managed only 15 field goals in the game in shooting just 30% from the field.

Phillips entered the night needing just seven points to reach 1000 points for his career and it didn′t take him long. In fact, Phillips led all scorers and was the only Geneva player to reach double figures with a 21 point performance on 5-14 shooting including 3-4 from three-point range.

In a defensive struggle, Geneva trailed Cal Lutheran 22-19 at halftime. Cal Lutheran scored the first five points of the second half and Geneva managed only three points through the first seven minutes of the second stanza as Cal Lutheran opened up a 32-22 lead. The Golden Tornadoes twice battled back and got the lead to within only two points the last of which coming at the 7:50 mark following a Trevor York lay-up that made the score 36-34.

Lambros Svingos scored seven points and grabbed ten rebounds despite being in foul trouble for most of the night. York came off the bench to score nine points on 3-7 shooting.

Geneva will make the trek back East to open up the 2012 portion of its schedule on Wednesday when they travel to nationally ranked Wooster College. The Golden Tornadoes get back into PAC action next Saturday when they travel to Thiel College.
