Greenville, PA - Winning can be contagious and in the case of the Geneva College women′s basketball team a victory to end its ten game losing streak on Wednesday night apparently built enough momentum for the Golden Tornadoes to post their first back to back victories of the season. Geneva took care of Thiel College on Saturday afternoon by the score of 57-56 to win its second straight game of the season for the first time all year. Geneva improved to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Geneva led by as many as seven points in the first half but watched Thiel battle back and ultimately take a ten points lead on its way to a 32-26 lead at the break. At the 14:45 mark of the second half, the Tomcats opened up a 46-32 lead and looked as though they would run and hide but the Golden Tornadoes would not be denied. Geneva slowly got back into the game and at the 3:03 mark a Rachel Rouan lay-up gave Geneva a 54-53 lead. Thiel pulled to within one point at 57-56 with 59 seconds left in regulation but Geneva′s defense kept the Tomcats off the board the rest of the way and came away with its second straight conference victory.

Beth DeLuca drained three three-point field goals to lead the Golden Tornadoes with 14 points. Freshman Chelsea Kauffman had her second straight solid game with ten points, five rebounds and four assists. Meanwhile, Kristland McCracken came off the bench with 11 points and six rebounds. Geneva shot 40% from the field in the second half and held Thiel to just nine second half field goals as it outscored Thiel 31-24 in the second half comeback.

Geneva will try to keep things rolling next week when they host Saint Vincent on Wednesday night at 5:30 pm and Washington & Jefferson next Saturday at 1 pm.
