New Wilmington, PA - Both the Geneva College women′s basketball team and the Westminster College women′s basketball team had been struggling coming into the first meeting of the season between the schools. With only six wins between them so far this season, each was looking to get back on track. Westminster managed to hold off Geneva in a defensive struggle that ended up 55-43 in favor of the Titans. Geneva dropped its third straight game and fell to 3-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play while the Titans improved to 4-11 overall and 4-5 in the PAC.
Neither team shot well in the first half as Westminster held a slight 19-17 lead into the locker room. The Titans quickly extended their lead and never allowed Geneva to go in front. Both teams shot 36% from the field but because Geneva committed 17 turnovers and Westminster controlled the glass, the Titans attempted 19 more shots on the night.
Samantha Fisher played her best game of the season after joining Geneva in December following a trip to Rome. Fisher posted her first double-double of the season and scored a career best 18 points to go with her ten rebounds. Rachel Rouan added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva played only six players in the game with all five starters playing 31 minutes or more in the game.
Westminster had three players finish the game in double figures led by Katie Hughes′ 14 points. Danielle Gilmore and Emily Montone each added ten points in the victory.
Geneva will head to Kentucky over the weekend for a date with the five time defending conference champion Thomas More in a rematch from earlier in the season when the Saints defeated Geneva 82-44. The Golden Tornadoes return home next Wednesday night to face Bethany College.
