Waynesburg, PA - The trend of slow starts hurt the Geneva College women′s basketball team yet again on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes watched the Yellow Jackets score the first eight points on their way to a 23-point halftime lead. The second half proved to be equally as frustrating for Geneva as it dropped a 78-42 decision to Waynesburg for its sixth consecutive loss. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-16 overall and 2-10 in the PAC while Waynesburg improved to 14-5 and 9-3 in league play.

Just eight minutes into the game, the Golden Tornadoes found themselves down 21-5 and could never establish any offensive consistency. Geneva committed 29 turnovers in the game and shot just 30% from the field. That combination along with Waynesburg′s 50% effort from the field was a recipe for disaster for the Golden Tornadoes.

"It has certainly been a tough go for us this year," said head coach Lori Wynn. "Despite the struggles on the scoreboard, I have still been very pleased with our effort on most days. We have a long way to go to get this program back to where we want to be but we have very special young ladies on this team who are working hard to get better every day."

Samantha Fisher led the Golden Tornadoes with 14 points and eight rebounds. Beth DeLuca added ten points including a pair of three-point field goals. Waynesburg finished with four players in double figures led by Jessi Drayer′s game high 19 points on 9-13 shooting from the field.

Geneva will return home on Wednesday night against Grove City in a game that could very well decide the eighth and final PAC play-off spot at the end of the regular season. The Wolverines entered the weekend just one game ahead of Geneva.
