Psalom

Picture of Psalom

Psalom-2012.jpgPsalom, a five-voice Russian and American a cappella vocal ensemble, will be at Geneva College on Wednesday, February 8. The group will lead the psalm singing in chapel in Metheny Fieldhouse at 10:15 a.m., and then perform a concert in John White Chapel at 7 p.m.

Psalom was founded by Russian composer Konstantin Zhigulin. The ensemble performed at Abilene Christian University lectureship 2006 and 2007. The group was also invited as a special guest to the Ascending Voice a cappella music symposium at Pepperdine University in June of 2007 and 2010, and the Pepperdine Lectures in 2008.

"We believe our program will be interesting for people who appreciate singing a cappella spiritual music, for those interested in new songs, especially songs based on psalms, for congregational singing, and for those concerned with the ministry of Christians in Russia and the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States)," said Zhigulin.

Zhigulin′s program focuses on introducing new songs to congregations and helping worshipers join in the expression of their spirit's yearnings through learning new songs quickly and confidently. The group′s main goal is to glorify God by encouraging and building up believers with His word and music - especially promises of His mercy and faithfulness, His control over the nations and our lives, and songs of hope and joy in the Lord.

Dr. David K. Smith, professor of voice and music representative on the Chapel Leadership Team, says, "I′m so glad for our campus community to learn some new psalm settings and meet their composer-from a different country and background-but likewise interested in creating new music, exploring the psalms and sharing his faith with others. What a great opportunity!"
