Alliance, OH - If the first two track and field meets of the season are any indication, Nick Edinger is on his way to an historic campaign. Two weeks after breaking the school indoor record in the 3000 meter race, Edinger went to work on the 5000 meter mark. Edinger and his men and women distance running teammates performed quite well against an elite field of runners at the University of Mount Union Jim Wuske Invitational.

In the men′s 5000 meter event, Edinger walked away with a first place finish while matching the school record with a time of 15:55. The 5000 meter indoor record was previously held by Andrew Foxenberg from 2006. Edinger′s 15:55 was good enough to win the race by less than a second. Teammate Charles Walters also turned in a top notch performance with a ninth place finish in the 5000 meter race turning in a time of 16:31.

In the 1000 meter men′s race, Nathan Mansor was Geneva′s top finisher with a time of 2:49.62 and good enough for ninth place.

The women′s 5000 meter event provided more Geneva highlights. Alayna Merkle, Emily Hoobler and Heidi Steiner all turned in top ten performances. Merkle led the charge with a third place finish and a time of 19:42. Hoobler finished one spot behind Merkle at 19:45. Steiner finished ninth with a mark of 20:57.

The only Geneva top ten finish in a non-running event was turned in by Katherine Michalak in the women′s shot put. The junior threw 37-01.00 which was good enough for seventh place in a very competitive field.

The Golden Tornadoes will now test themselves against the best from Presidents′ Athletic Conference next Friday at the PAC Championships being held at West Virginia University.
