Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College′s Julie DiLonardo continues to rewrite the Golden Tornadoes′ softball record book. On Saturday, she became the school′s all-time leader in pitching victories as she led Geneva to a 4-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Point Park. Geneva salvaged a split with the game two victory after dropping the first game 2-0. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 9-7.
DiLonardo allowed just three hits in game one but a two-run homer in the fourth inning proved to be the difference. DiLonardo struck out six in the loss. Geneva′s offense managed only three hits in game one and only twice advanced a runner past second base.
Geneva′s bats came alive in game two with a total of eight hits including two each from Ashley Davis and DiLonardo. Lori Deem′s two-run single in the second inning gave Geneva the lead. DiLonardo knocked in another run in the fourth and Andrea Hinds scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to stretch the lead to 3-0. DiLonardo allowed a solo homer in the sixth for the only Point Park tally. Going the distance, DiLonardo allowed three hits and struck out eight in the victory.
Geneva will host Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday before traveling to Hiram next Friday for the first road games of the season.
