Berea, OH - The Geneva College softball team is 22 games into the 2012 schedule and it will finally prepare to open play in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference on Saturday. For the past four years, the Golden Tornadoes have competed in the PAC but have not been eligible for conference standings or post-season awards. All that changes on Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes begin conference play at home against Waynesburg. On Wednesday, Geneva closed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a doubleheader split at Baldwin-Wallace. The Golden Tornadoes took game one 4-3 before dropping a 5-0 decision in the night cap. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 12-10 as it prepares to begin conference play.

Geneva jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one with a pair of runs in the second inning. An RBI single from Mackenzie Kemerer followed by a bases loaded walk to Martha Adams put Geneva on top. Baldwin-Wallace tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs and a runner on in the top of fifth, Ashley Davis sent a fly ball over the right center field fence for a two-run homer, which was the first home run of her career, giving Geneva a 4-2 lead. B-W scored once in the bottom of the sixth but Julie DiLonardo held on for the complete game victory. DiLonardo won for the 11th time by allowing three earned runs on eight hits and striking out five. Geneva had five hits in game one including a pair from Kemerer.

Baldwin-Wallace scored a run in the first inning of game two which turned out to be all it would need as the Golden Tornadoes were held to six singles in the loss. Marti Adams was the only Geneva player with a two-hit game. DiLonardo went four innings in picking up the loss after allowing three earned runs. Baldwin-Wallace extended its lead to 4-0 on back to back home runs in the fourth before posting a single run in the sixth off of reliever Andrea Hinds.

The Golden Tornadoes will host Waynesburg on Saturday at 1 pm in the first PAC games of the season. Geneva will travel to Saint Vincent next Tuesday before returning on April 5th for a twin-bill against Grove City.
