Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva couldn′t find a way to get Mike Jeffreys a victory despite another stellar outing on the mound in game one on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 2-1 decision in the first game at 33rd Street Field but fought back with the bats in the night cap to earn a 9-5 victory over the Tomcats. The split moved Geneva′s record to 11-12 overall and 5-6 in the PAC.

Game one was all about the pitching. A scoreless tie into the sixth inning, Thiel finally broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the inning on three hits. The Golden Tornadoes responded with their only run of the game in the bottom of the inning. Mike Suluva picked up the RBI on a fielder′s choice to cut the lead in half. Geneva went down without a base runner in the seventh inning to drop its fourth straight game. Jeffreys allowed four hits in the game with three of those hits coming in the fateful sixth inning. He went the distance and struck out seven in the loss. Geneva also managed only four hits in the loss.

The bats came alive in game two as Geneva struck for nine runs and 12 hits. The Golden Tornadoes exploded for eight runs and eight hits in the first inning. Jeffreys and Suluva had RBI singles while Jon Bushmire struck for a two-run triple and was knocked in by Noah Medich. Other RBI hits in the inning were picked up by Jeremy Herzog and Ryan McGonigle. Joel Gatti knocked in Geneva′s ninth run with a base hit in the sixth inning. Caleb Kilgore went 6 1/3 in the game to earn his team leading fourth victory of the season. Kilgore allowed four earned runs on six hits.

Geneva will play single games at W & J on Wednesday and Westminster on Thursday before returning home next Saturday for a doubleheader against Westminster.
