Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College softball team still struggled for most of the day at the plate. But the Golden Tornadoes did just enough to make a pair of outstanding pitching performances stand up for a doubleheader sweep over Grove City. Geneva took game one 3-1 and held on for a victory in the night cap by the count of 1-0. The sweep helped Geneva to improve to 16-12 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Geneva′s offense struck early in game one as Ashley Davis laced an RBI double into the right center field gap to score Rachel Lee with the game′s first run in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, Lori Deem opened the inning with a double and scored on Brittany Clark′s first career home run. Geneva′s three runs was more than enough for Julie DiLonardo in the circle. The Wolverines to score a run in the bottom of the second on a solo homer, but that was all the scoring Grove City would muster for the rest of the day. DiLonardo went the distance in game one for the victory. She allowed three hits and struck out five.

DiLonardo posted her fifth shut-out of the season in the night cap going seven innings and scattering seven hits. She struck out eight in the victory and walked just one in picking up victories number 13 and 14 on the season. Geneva′s lone run came in the fifth inning thanks to a Grove City miscue. Mackenzie Kemerer singled to open the inning and moved to second on an error by the third baseman after one out. Christina Fuqua took advantage of the error with an RBI base hit for the only run of the game. Geneva finished with five hits including a pair from Fuqua.

The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy a weekend off before getting back to work next week. Geneva will travel to Bethany next Wednesday and Thiel next Saturday.
