Beaver Falls, PA - Watching the Grove City College baseball team rally back to tie the game didn′t faze the Golden Tornadoes from Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes responded immediately after Grove City tied the game at six in the seventh inning with a pair of runs of their own. Geneva added some insurance late and pulled out an 11-6 victory on Friday afternoon. Geneva′s second victory in a row pushed its overall record to 13-15 including a 7-9 mark in conference place.

Mike Trn got only his fourth start of the season and pitched well for Geneva. Trn went 6+ innings and allowed five earned runs to keep Geneva in the lead until the seventh. Mike Jeffreys came on in the seventh with the Golden Tornadoes leading by a run and a pair of runners in scoring position. An RBI ground out tied the game but that was all the offense Grove City would muster against Jeffreys the rest of the way. Jeffreys picked up his fifth victory of the season with 2.2 innings of relief in allowing just one walk while striking out three including the final two outs of the game.

After Grove City opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning, Geneva answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Adam Scheiderer. Garrett Swanson knocked in Geneva′s second run with a sacrifice fly in the second before Geneva′s three-run third. Scheiderer and Mike Suluva each had RBI singles in the third to highlight the rally. Joel Gatti′s RBI single in the sixth scored another tally and Jeremy Herzog′s 2-run double in the seventh proved to be the game winner after Grove City had tied the game in the top of the inning. Jon Bushmire′s two-run double capped a three-run eighth inning that put the game away.

Geneva had nine hits in the victory including three from Scheiderer and two each from Suluva and Bushmire. The Golden Tornadoes will look to win the series on Saturday as Geneva will travel to Grove City for a doubleheader moved up to 11 am.
