Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College softball team swept a four-game series with Houghton College over the last two days to claim the NCCAA East regional title. The Golden Tornadoes will be awarded an automatic bid to the NCCAA national tournament in Virginia in May. Geneva will accept that automatic bid unless they are still alive in NCAA post-season play.

On Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes used the combination of solid pitching and timely hitting to come away with victories over Houghton by the scores of 5-0 and 9-2. In game one, senior hurler Julie DiLonardo broke the school record for career strikeouts with four punch-outs in the first two innings. DiLonardo picked up her 18th victory of the season and sixth shut-out by allowing just three hits and striking out nine. DiLonardo now has 492 career strikeouts in breaking the all-time mark previously held by Ashley Archer.

Geneva′s offense got going with a run in the second inning when Michelle Barr tripled home Andrea Hinds. The Golden Tornadoes posted three runs in the third on an RBI double from Christina Fuqua and a two-run single from Lori Deem. Brittany Clark knocked in Geneva′s fifth run with a base hit in the fourth inning.

Andrea Hinds went four innings to pick up her fourth victory of the season in the night cap. She allowed two earned runs on just two hits. Hinds walked a pair and struck out five in the victory. DiLonardo pitched 2.2 innings of relief to close things out for Geneva. Fuqua doubled home Geneva′s first run in the first inning before posting four runs in the third and fourth innings to put the game away. Fuqua′s two-run double highlighted the third inning rally. Martha Adams doubled home another run in the fourth before Fuqua completed her solid day at the plate with another RBI single. Geneva banged out 13 hits in game two including three from Fuqua and two each from Hinds, Clark and Mackenzie Kemerer.

Geneva gets back into conference play on Wednesday when it hosts first place Westminster for a 3:30 pm doubleheader.
