Crestview Hills, KY - The Geneva College baseball team has certainly seen better days. On Friday, the Golden Tornadoes dropped a doubleheader to Thomas More in the first two games of a three-game weekend series with the Saints. Geneva watched Thomas More pour on the offense in a 21-5 loss in game one before falling 9-1 in the night cap. The sweep dropped Geneva′s overall record to 14-18 including an 8-12 mark in conference play.

Game one started well enough for the Golden Tornadoes as Mike Jeffreys teed off on a solo home run to start the game. The Saints were not at all fazed and rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning, one in the second and five more in the third. Geneva posted a pair of runs in the third inning thanks to a two-run single from Jon Bushmire. Thomas More scored in every inning but the fifth including a seven run inning to break things wide open in the fourth inning. Jeffreys knocked in Geneva′s fourth run with a base hit in the fourth before Adam Scheiderer led of the fifth with a solo homer. Jeffreys had three of Geneva′s seven hits in the loss.

On the mound, Caleb Kilgore took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings of work. Thomas More banged out 20 hits in the game one victory.

Game two started as much more of a pitcher′s duel. After Thomas more posted one run in the first inning, the game stayed that way until the Saints posted back to back four run frames in the fifth and sixth innings. Mike Jeffreys took the loss with 4.2 innings of work allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Geneva had seven hits in the game with Jeffreys picking up a pair giving him five knocks in the doubleheader. Geneva′s lone run came in the sixth inning on a Jon Bushmire RBI single.

Geneva and Thomas More will play a single game at noon on Saturday before Geneva heads to Medaille for a non-conference doubleheader next Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes will face off against Waynesburg next weekend with a three-game series coming to a close at Geneva on Saturday at 1 pm.
