Washington, PA - The Geneva College softball team used the combination of pitching and power on Tuesday to get past Washington & Jefferson in a conference doubleheader sweep. The Golden Tornadoes took game one 6-2 and shut down the Presidents 3-0 in the night cap. The sweep pushed Geneva′s overall record to 25-15 including a 9-5 mark in the conference. The Golden Tornadoes are currently tied with Thiel for third place in the conference just one game behind Saint Vincent and Westminster for the top spot.

Geneva loaded the bases in the top of the first in game one but came away empty handed. Moments later, W & J posted the game′s first two runs to take an early 2-0 lead. The lead held up until Geneva′s four-spot in the third inning. Lori Deem′s base hit knocked in the first run and Mackenzie Kemerer launched a three-run blast, her first career homer, over the left field fence to give Geneva a 4-2 advantage. That was more than enough for Julie DiLonardo in the circle. Geneva plated a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning that were the result of an infield error. DiLonardo went the distance and allowed just those two first inning runs. She surrendered six hits and struck out six in picking up her 20th victory of the season.

DiLonardo was even sharper in game two. She gave up just four hits and struck out eight in picking up her eighth shut-out of the season. DiLonardo tied her own school record with her 21st victory of the season. In game one, she also became the first pitcher in school history to surpass the 500 strikeout mark for her career. All of Geneva′s offense in game two came in the fifth inning. After a lead-off walk and a single from Andrea Hinds, Christina Fuqua teed off on her third home run of the season to give Geneva a 3-0 lead. Fuqua had four more hits on the day after going 11-21 last week to earn PAC player of the week honors.

The Golden Tornadoes host Thomas More on Wednesday and close out the regular season with a home doubleheader against Chatham University on Friday at 3 pm.
